new taxi

The Ford Transit Connect!

It looks odd, especially with the rooflight advertisement cone on top, it really conflicts with the tall boxy shape of the car. besides that though it looks like it may have more passenger room and luggage room than the Ford Escape, that's the car next to it.

Apparently now you can buy this car as an alternative to the approved hybrids, or the big Ford Crown Victoria. Or I'm not sure, maybe you can't get those cars anymore, they may all be off the approved list now. Another new addition to the list is a regular Nissan Altima, not just the hybrid model.

Wow, you were able to get a photo of a NYC Transit Connect taxi pretty quick. The Ford press release about these new cabs hitting the streets of NYC was just released today. Apparently, about 400 are on order by NYC taxi fleets. It'll be interesting to see if the fleets have good luck with them. I was in Las Vegas last week and noticed that the three largest fleets there are now testing a few of the CNG powered Transit Connect cabs. Thanks for posting the photo!

Thanks, and now I've seen 2 more. it looks way better without the advertising cone on the roof. now that I've seen a few on the road, I already don't like something about them, the driving position is low and yet the roof is tall. But I'm very excited about the trunk room and the gas mileage, very welcome change there. Today I got 13miles to the gallon in the crown victoria and I was impressed that it did that good.

I'll be curious to see one without the roof ad. Hoping you can grab a photo of one soon. Supposedly, about 200 have been delivered to NYC fleets and are in the process of being hacked-up. Here's a photo Ford Media released of medallion 7K13.

Having driven one for almost 5K now and it is akin to a tin can on a roller skate. Driver position is very uncomfortable. Great luggage room, just no leg room for passengers! Worse than a Crown Vic! It is extremely tinny...you hear every noise...road, engine whine, suspension...all echo's inside.

No thank you...keep it! Besides...their made in Turkey...not here in the US!

Hopefully, I could ride on one of those odd looking taxis! Seems like an enjoyable ride downtown!
