I have no idea why I'm still awake now, worked sat,sun,mon, and tuesday. traffic: crazy, but it was manageable, I felt like i was some sort of hero dodging bullets down the avenues, memorizing lane changes like secret codes to video games
"6th avenue- so it's middle right, middle left, middle right, middle left, left, left, right, middle, middle right, right, far right, middle-right, left-left, far left, than middle left." these are the words I recite out loud taking a customer past 42nd from canal. it's like a game of frogger, only as the car not the frog, dodging other cars, and the occasional.. frog i.e. pedestrian caught in the middle right lane.
I am extremely excited about the prospect of video taping a shift, but I don't know how to go about doing it. I originally thought of taping 12 hours, and condensing it into a high speed 5 minute video, but i don't know which cameras and software combos will do that, plus i need the camera in a small affordable package, to be discrete, i am not interested in taping my customers, who should appear as mere shapes, only the action of driving. But now a new idea pops into my head: what if I could tape and stream video live, you could tune into the blog and see where i am at each moment!!! does anybody know how to do these things?? with what products?

Maybe you just use your normal cam and programm it in a way that it takes a shot every 10 secs or so. Dunno if that is possible.
that's be a cool idea, every 5 seconds, yeah. but I can't program the camera for that. If I got a camera phone with internet access, this would be cool, I'd thought of that, don't know if I could program it. but yeah this might be an easier solution than the video
you could always pick up one of those flip cameras on the cheap
yes, but I don't think it's capable of recording 12 hours. I'd like something that size to record 12 hours, or have a battery to change and use every 6 hours. I think there still may be no sufficient technology out there for such a thing.
That sounds awesome! If you choose to do the streaming idea you definitvly will have to tell! Sounds sooo awesome! Great ideas!
These are all very very exciting prospects. I too have wished for them to materialize in my shifts. A view of you the driver and/or the passengers as they enter, sit, and leave. It's all very Baraka or Koyaanisqatsi, no? Especially that fast forward idea. Imagine the incredible soundtrack you could work into the 12 hi speed hours.
Last thing, have you ever heard of a para-diddle? It's the most basic beat you learn as a drum player. Left right left left
Right left right right.
Your lane shift chants reminded me of this.

And no never heard of the para didle either, but I agree, sometimes, most times, it all feels rhythmic, the new york hack tapped into that in her writing too.
