Fake Taxis
The cars shown in this slide set, are either private cars, undercover police cars, or they play a roll in movies or television. The only cab that could be deemed real is the cash cab van as it does have a real medallion, however it never takes people out of Manhattan, and it is unlikely that it picks up people at random without a pre-screening:

something about seeing a yellow cab pull over another yellow cab is quite unsettling to me. it almost feels like some creepy sci fi in which we (the cabbies) are being exterminated in the most smugly sneakish fashion.
Yes, fortunately I've mostly seen them pull over others more often. It's gonna be even weirder when they have nissan altimas
